On Tuesday of last week, our supported factory, Royal Strathclyde Blindcraft Industries (RSBi) based in Springburn, Glasgow welcomed visitors to a “Behind the Scenes” event organised by the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI).
The SCDI is an independent and inclusive economic network of business organisations which seeks to influence and inspire Government and key stakeholders with their ambitious vision to create sustainable economic growth for Scotland.
Royal Strathclyde Blindcraft Industries (RSBi), is the manufacturing division of City Building. It is a distinct organisation with unique resources. Specialising in manufacturing a wide range of products and dedicated to making a difference in the community.
From its roots as a supported factory for the visually impaired, RSBi is today committed to providing opportunities for people with disabilities, as well as helping towards the economic regeneration of the local community and beyond.
This contribution makes RSBi one of the country’s leading examples of social enterprise, combining commercial success with socially responsible practices.
As Scotland’s largest supported business, RSBi employs 220 people, of whom 154 are disabled. All RSBi products can be viewed at www.citybuildingglasgow.co.uk/rsbi-products
City Building is a strategic partner with SCDI and this event gave an opportunity for business to understand how supported business operating as a social enterprise produces high quality products whilst providing employment for people who are disabled or disadvantaged.
Robert Tamburrini, CEO of Ng homes commented: “I was tremendously impressed with the set up at RSBi’s factory in Edgefauld Avenue Springburn. All the staff team are highly skilled and motivated. They provide a full range of products and services to the highest standard possible and they are such a credit to themselves and their parent company City Building. That is why RSBi are our preferred supplier for our fitted kitchens, office furniture and even timber framed kit houses. They never stand still and are always planning and developing new products. Consequently, I would highly recommend them.”
